Exeter MS Charity Delivers Free Fatigue Programme with Life-Changing Results

People living with multiple sclerosis (MS) in Exeter have reported transformative results after completing a free six-week course designed to help manage fatigue, often described as one of the most challenging symptoms of the condition.
The programme, called FACETS (Fatigue: Applying Cognitive and Energy effectiveness Techniques to LifeStyle), was delivered by physiotherapist Alison Bulger at the South West MS Therapy Centre. FACETS combines physiotherapy principles with cognitive strategies.
Alison Bulger, Physiotherapist from the South West MS Therapy Centre, said: “We give people with MS practical tools and confidence to manage fatigue in ways that fit their lives. We’ve seen participants leave feeling empowered and more in control of their day-to-day activities.”
Feedback from the course has been overwhelmingly positive:
100% of attendees said they would recommend FACETS to others living with MS fatigue.
60% of participants said it was “very important” that the course continues to be offered free of charge.
Gordon Guest, a member from Cullompton, said: “I didn’t really know about brain fog and the impact tiredness and fatigue had on your thinking. When I'm really tired, I can't watch TV or read a book because it's too much effort for my brain to manage, so I just sit and listen to the radio instead.”
He added: “What I found particularly useful was being part of a group. As we grew more confident with each other, everyone started sharing their experiences and you suddenly thought, I'm not alone.”
One participant described the experience as “transformative,” adding: “Thank you very much for running the course, it has been life-changing for me.”
Caroline Aird, Chief Executive of the South West MS Therapy Centre, said: “MS fatigue can really impact everyday life, and this programme provides peer support, shared experiences and improves quality of life, as shown in clinical trials and uptake globally. We’re delighted to have offered this free of charge thanks to the generosity of our supporters.”
The charity hopes to expand access to FACETS across Devon with further support. Just £20 funds one session for one person. To support future courses donate here, or register interest by emailing admin@southwestmscentre.co.uk
